PUBLIC LIABILiTY COMPENSATION
If you have suffered an injury on public property or due to defective products or services, you may be entitled to compensation.
Under public liability law, you can claim compensation for injury resulting from:
- Slips or falls on public property such as damaged footpaths or in shopping centres
- Accidents which occur on school or university grounds
- Injuries sustained in a public recreational area (park, sporting events, amusement parks)
- Dog attacks
- Defective products or services
- Food poisoning
- In some cases, claims can also be made on private properties, if negligent workmanship can be blamed.
PROVING NEGLIGENCE IN PUBLIC LIABILITY
You can make a claim for compensation under Public Liability if you can prove that your injury is due to the negligence of the public authority or property owner or if the product or service was faulty and as a result you sustained injury.
You must be able to show that you were sufficiently responsible for your own safety at the time of the accident, and that the injury occurred due to circumstances outside of your control.
